Shelly Tygielski, a mindfulness teacher and community organizer from South Florida, had an inspiration of how to respond to the coronavirus with love.
In response to a growing need among her social media friends who were facing challenges due to COVID 19i, she created a website to connect people in need with those who could help.
This idea of a simple act of kindness went viral on social media and led to a world-wide volunteer organization
Pandemic of Love is a grassroots volunteer-led mutual aid organization that now has over 1,000 full-time volunteers around the globe. As of October 10th, 2020, the Pandemic of Love community had made possible:
- 340,000+ matches between people/families in need with people who could help
- Over 680,000 unique human connections
- Over $41.5 million in direct transactions
Pandemic of Love connects local needs with local donors
I first learned about Pandemic of Love from our local paper, Mountain Xpress. I was immediately attracted by the name. What we need in this world right now, I thought, is a Pandemic of Love.
Then as I read about how easily the process works, I became excited about sharing it with as many people as possible. As I scrolled through the list of communities offering Pandemic of Love services, it became clear that many other people felt the same way.
